Here's the color version of the black and white photo spread that appeared in the Summer 1998 edition of Blues Suede News. All pix but the shot of Ruth Brown were taken at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Ruth's photo was taken at the W.C. Handy Awards in Memphis. The caption box below is from BSN.
"You wouldn't think it was possible to pack so much great music into a tidy little two week span, but the producers of the annual New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival consider it all in a year's work. With more fun going on than you can shake a well-oiled booty at, it doesn't take long for the performers themselves to get into the N'Awlins party mood. NOLA native Keb' Mo' couldn't keep from grinning through most of his set; musical mystic and R&B legend Eddie Bo closed out WWOZ's 10th Annual Professor Longhair Piano Night at Tipitina's with a get-down, rock 'em-sock 'em flair. Clockwise above: Bonnie Raitt gives 'em something to shout about; John Mooney scales the heights, and his bass player, while sliding into a searing encore number; Frankie Ford cruises the keyboard -- Ooo-wee, baby!; Jimmy Vaughn slams home the blues Texas-style at UNO Lakefront; Ruth Brown delighted the Jazz Fest crowd, then slipped up I-55 to Memphis where she walked off with her first two W.C. Handy Awards; Terrance Simien (center) doesn't know how to do anything but have a rockin' good time. Laissez les bontemps rouler!. (All photos © 1998 by Jef Jaisun)"
